Sioux City Schools bringing internet to students to learn at home
It’s estimated about 1,500 households in Sioux City will need internet service for the new school year.
Now, the district is working to get them the devices and “hot spots” so students can learn virtually under the district’s hybrid learning plan. The school district has bought MiFi Hotspots to distribute.
“T-Mobile is the company that won the mobile quote for our mobile devices and they are able to deliver them in the first week of September,” said John Pritchard of the SCCSD.
Until all of the devices arrive, the district will work with families to make sure they still have access to all the educational materials they need. Meanwhile, all of the “parking lot hotspots” that were set up over the summer are still operational.
“One of the things we want to make sure to provide is equitable access to all of our students and to all the educational materials that we have and doing that through the hotspot programs is one way that we can do that,” Pritchard continued.
The school district is urging all families who do not have wifi service for remote learning to call their school district so they can get a mobile hotspot.
